Rules of Composition: Patterns

A pattern in an image is a design or a shape that repeats itself, and can be made more obvious if you crop in on your subject and isolate the pattern from distractions. If you photograph a pattern on a diagonal, it can add a lot of life and movement to your image. This is a fun way to make abstract art!

The Third Door matchbook image was created for id8 Agency to showcase packaging designed for The Third Door Speakeasy on the Marietta Square in Marietta, Georgia

Patterns can be found in the spores on the fern leaves and the arrangement of the leaves themselves.
